Men's Tennis Welcomes Three Newcomers


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men’s tennis head coach Jeff Zinn, has welcomed three newcomers to the roster ahead of the 2023-24 season. Joining the Nittany Lions are Jack Martuccio, Nolan Ranger and Alexander Sterin.
 
The three players come with decorated backgrounds, having achieved numerous awards and championships throughout their high school careers.

Jack Martuccio

5-10 | Warren, Ohio/Grandview Preparatory School/Evert Tennis Academy

HIGH SCHOOL

Played for head coach Jacob Hernandez at Evert Tennis Academy…Made the doubles final at a J4 ITF Tournament in Florida…Rated by Tennis Recruiting as the No. 76 overall prospect and the No. 4 player in Ohio in the 2023 class.

PERSONAL

Son of Jim and Pam Martuccio…Has siblings named James and Christopher…His aunt attended Penn State…Intends to major in business.

 

Nolan Ranger

6-2 | Edina, Minn./Edina

 

HIGH SCHOOL

Played at Edina High School for head coach Gary Aasen…Led the Hornets to four section championships, four conference championships, and in three state appearances, securing first, second, and third…Individually, secured second place at two sectionals and placed second and fifth at two state championships…Named a three-time All-Conference player and a two-time MVP…Set multiple records at his high school, having the most 6-0 sets in one season and the quickest high school match played…Ended his high school career with a 24-1 record…Went 22-2 as a junior…As a sophomore, he ended his season going 19-1…Nationally, he was ranked 57th by Tennis Recruiting, 47th in USTA singles, and 29th in USTA doubles…Rated by Tennis Recruiting as the No. 2 prospect in Minnesota in the 2023 class.

Son of Lars and Michele Ranger…Has two sisters named Elle and Erin…Father, Lars, played professional tennis and secured a national championship win…Intends to major in finance.

Played at Council Rock South High School under head coach Eric Scholl…Was the SOL champion in 2021 and 2023, won the district championship in 2021, and was a district finalist in 2023…Named PIAA All-State in 2022 and 2023…Was a three-time first team All-League selection…In sophomore year, was the 2021 National L2 doubles champion in New York…During junior year, placed…
