OXFORD, Miss. – Three Ole Miss men’s tennis student-athletes made their way into the first 2023-24 ITA Rankings, the ITA announced on Tuesday, with Nikola Slavic, Lukas Engelhardt, and John Hallquist Lithen receiving preseason slots.
The national rankings feature the top 125 singles players, the top 60 doubles teams and the top 10 freshman or newcomer players in the country.
The duo of Slavic and Engelhardt will commence their fall season amongst some of the nation’s best, earning the No. 8 spot in the doubles rankings. Together they racked up a 9-3 record last spring while going a perfect 3-0 against national pairings. They were also selected as a NCAA Doubles Championship alternate.
Slavic proves to be a dominant force not only in doubles, but singles as well. He continues his two-year streak ranked in the top-100, earning the No. 34 slot, which is the highest singles ranking for the Rebels. The Stockholm, Sweden, native earned an 18-12 overall singles record last year, primarily playing at the No. 1 position. Slavic also accumulated six ranked singles victories and advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Southern Regional.
Lithen obtained his highest career singles ranking at No. 77 after coming off an impressive year. He compiled a 22-9 singles record, leading all Rebels with career high singles victories. Last season, the senior received All-SEC Second Team honors, was responsible for clinching six matches for the Rebels, and captured five wins against ranked singles opponents.
