Men’s Tennis Sweeps Doubleheader Action

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s tennis team (2-2) earned a dominant 7-0 victory against Colgate before picking up a win 6-1 over Cleveland State to sweep the doubleheader Friday at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center. 

“We finally had our first home match,” said head coach Jeff Zinn. I feel like when you start the season on the road, you don’t get the momentum that you need. Today, we had two quality opponents in Colgate and Cleveland State. I felt like we got the momentum that we need to go onto our next match against Dartmouth.” 

PENN STATE 7, COLGATE 0  

DOUBLES 

The Nittany Lions swept the Raiders on all three doubles courts to start the dual match. 

On court one, Bora Sengul and Chikaya Sato defeated Rohan Gupta and Nick Potter, 6-2, to finish first. Malik Bhatnagar and Alexander Karman followed quickly earning the win against Mike Thomas and Josh Israel, 6-4. At No. 2, Charl Morgan and Miko Eala battled hard to come away with the 7-6 victory over Jack Selati and Nate Romig.  

SINGLES 

Penn State also secured straight- set wins on all six singles courts to earn the 7-0 sweep over Colgate. 

Morgan grabbed the first singles point for Penn State at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Colgate’s Romig. 

Sengul took down Gupta 6-0, 6-1 to finish second. Sato clinched the Nittany Lion win with a 6-1, 6-2 No. 3 singles victory over Benito Vlassis.  

On court one, Bhatnagar defeated Selati 6-2, 6-4. Ondrej Ctverak took down Israel at No. 6, 6-1, 6-3. Harrison Janes then secured the 7-0 sweep with a 6-4, 6-1 win…
