Men’s Tennis Signs Transfer David Cierny


EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon men’s tennis has signed Utah State transfer David Cierny, it was announced today by head coach Nils Schyllander.
 
Cierny, a native of Zvolen, Slovakia, will join the Ducks in the fall after spending the spring season with Utah State. Last season, Cierny was named to both the All-Mountain West Singles and Doubles teams with a 17-15 record in singles, going 4-1 in conference play. Cierny had four clinching points on the season.
 
The 2022 ITA Mountain Region finalist holds a UTR of 12.95 and is currently the No.1 in the singles and doubles lineups for Utah State. Prior to his time with the Aggies, Cierny played two seasons at Virginia Commonwealth, compiling an overall record of 11-8. He helped VCU to an Atlantic 10 championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2021.
 
Cieny has earned multiple academic honors off the court, including being named an Academic All-Mountain West last season, and was a MW Scholar-Athlete as well as a Utah State University Whitesides Scholar Athlete.
