Men's Tennis Signs Blue Chip Alex Visser

DURHAM – Duke men’s tennis head coach Ramsey Smith announced Thursday the signing of Alex Visser to the class of 2027.

“This is a big day for our program,” Smith said. “Maciek [Sykut] and I are thrilled to welcome Alex to the Duke Tennis Family!”

“Alex is a player we have wanted for, for a long time, and I have really enjoyed watching him grow, improve, and develop over the years. His coaches, Patrick Hirscht and Mike Slattery, have done a fantastic job building Alex’s game for college success.”

Visser is a native of Westport, Conn., and a Blue Chip prospect who achieved a TennisRecruiting.net national ranking of No. 5 in the summer of 2022. He is listed as the No. 1 prospect from New England and the state of Connecticut. Visser also earned a career high TennisRPI national ranking of No. 2 and reached a career high UTR rating of 12.92 this summer.

“Duke has been on my radar for as long as I can remember”, Visser said. “I also very much look forward to being part of the team and playing for the Blue Devils next year, and especially being with this group of guys. It’s really a dream come true.”

Visser’s junior career is highlighted by winning the gold ball at the 2021 USTA Boys’ 18s National Indoor Championship. He earned the bronze ball at the 2021 USTA Boys’ 18s National Spring Championship and finished in seventh place at the USTA National Championships in Kalamazoo. In addition, Visser won the second place playoffs in his first UTR Pro Tennis Tour event in Charleston, S.C.

“Alex is a natural mover and ball striker who can really dictate points with his big forehand,” Smith added. “His serve has also developed into a weapon. Alex made some big strides with his game this past summer, and I know he’s going to keep putting in the work needed to prepare for his college tennis career at Duke.”

Visser’s father, Matthias, was a letterwinner for the Blue Devils in men’s tennis, earning ACC Academic Honor Roll nods.
