CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini men’s tennis will host Northwestern (12 p.m. CT) and Saint Louis University (5 p.m. CT) on April 13 at Atkins Tennis Center.
History
Illinois has the upper hand over in-state rival Northwestern with a 72-39-2 overall record. The two teams first met on May 19, 1905, when they tied, 3-3.
Head coach Brad Dancer has only lost twice to the Wildcats, once in 2016 (L, 4-3) and then in 2023 (L, 4-3). The Illini have outscored Northwestern, 118-39, since Dancer has been at the helm.
Illinois has only faced SLU three times and holds a 3-0 record over the Billikens. The first time the two sides met was on April 18, 1958, when Illinois won with a 6-0 decision in St. Louis.
Scouting Report
Northwestern just split conference matches with Nebraska and Wisconsin, defeating the Badgers, 5-2, and losing to the Cornhuskers, 6-1, in Nebraska.
SLU just collected a 4-3 home win over Butler followed by a neutral-site match against Duquesne, defeating the Dukes, 4-2, on April 11 in Dayton, Ohio.
