GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators Men’s Tennis look to maintain their perfect 6-0 record at home as they return to Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex for a double-header with the Tennessee State Tigers on Tuesday. The two matches are slated for 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The match will mark the first between the two programs in history, the 159th unique opponent in Florida Gators Men’s Tennis program history. The match also marks the first between Florida Gators Men’s Tennis and any member of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC).
Last Time Out
The Gators are coming off a difficult weekend that featured losses to No. 5 Kentucky and No. 9 Tennessee, two of the three highest-ranked teams Florida has faced this season.
The Gators did see a few bright spots emerge from the weekend, with the Gators claiming the doubles point against Kentucky including Nate Bonetto/Aidan Kim taking a set over the No. 13 doubles pair in the nation, and freshman Kevin Edengren emerging as another strong option in the singles lineup.
The Opponent
Tennessee State enters Tuesday’s slate with a 3-11 record. The Tigers have played four matches against SEC opponents in the 2024 dual season – a 6-1 loss against Vanderbilt, a 7-0 loss to Mississippi State, and two losses Ole Miss by 7-0 and 4-0 scores.
The Tigers’ matches with Florida end a 10-day, 7-match southern road trip against Alabama State (L, 6-1), New Orleans (W, 5-2), Nicholls (W, 6-1), Southern Miss (L, 3-4), and Troy (scheduled for March 11, 2024).
