SALT LAKE CITY- The Utah men’s tennis program hopped back into action Friday as they began the first matches of their second home tournament.
The competition started with double matches. Utah’s Geremia Rossi and Rian Ta played against Weber State’s Elyes Marouani and Tristan Sarap. The Utah duo lost the match in a tiebreaker set, with score 8-7(5) favoring the Wildcats.
Charlie Spina and Dylan Applegate faced Utah State duo consisting of Christian Holmes and Javier Ruiz. The Ute duo took the victory, finishing 8-6 against the Aggies.
Following doubles, the teams went into singles. Rossi defeated Wildcats’ Elyes Marouani in a 6-2, 7-5 match. Teammate Ta faced Weber State’s Tristan Sarap but dropped the match 6-2, 6-2.
Spina played against Aggies’ Javier Ruiz, but the opponent took the upper hand and finished 7-5, 6-3. Applegate played against Utah State’s Christian Holmes, and after a tough match lost 6-4, 7-6 (4).
Competition will begin again tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. MT with doubles followed by singles.
