Men’s Tennis Falls to Toledo

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s tennis team dropped its match against the Toledo Rockets, 4-3.  

DOUBLES 

Miko Eala and Stefan Simeunovic secured a strong 6-0 win against Matias Olivero and Charlie Snow at No. 2. 

 

At the top doubles match, duo Jack Martuccio and Alexander Sterin dropped their match against Poonthong Komolpisut and Pawit Sornlaksup, 6-0.  

Coming down to the final match, pair Loren Byers and Nolan Ranger fought in a tight match, but ultimately fell 6-4 to Hanamichi Carvajal and Marko Galic. 

 

The Nittany Lions dropped the doubles point. 

SINGLES 

Eala put the first score on the board for the Nittany Lions, defeating Marko Galic, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2.  

 

Martuccio held up strong, defeating Snow, 6-4, 6-1, in his first collegiate victory. 

 

Simeunovic battled strong, taking his match into three sets. He ultimately won 6-7(3), 6-4, 7-5 against Cole Cozens. 

 

Byers kept a close match, but ended up dropping his match 6-4, 7-6(3) to Sornlaksup. Ranger dropped his match as well against Carvajal, falling 6-2, 6-4.

 

Sterin’s match went into three sets against Olivero, ending in a third set tiebreak. Ultimately, Sterin dropped his match 7-6(3), 3-6, 7-6(7).

UP NEXT 

The Nittany Lions will close out the weekend on Sunday, Jan. 28 against Temple (1-1). The match will be played at the Indoor Tennis Center starting at 1 p.m.
