Men's Tennis Earns ITA Team Academic Award, Five Receive Scholar-Athlete

TEMPE – For the fourth consecutive season, Arizona State Men’s Tennis has been named an ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) All-Academic Team. Sun Devils Spencer Brachman, Jacob Bullard, Murphy Cassone, Nicola Cigna and Max McKennon each collected the 2023 ITA Scholar-Athlete award as announced by ITA Monday morning.

In 2023, 959 Division I Men’s student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 162 men’s tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.



Aside from their ITA individual accolades, Spencer Brachman, Jacob Bullard, Murphy Cassone, Nicola Cigna and Max McKennon have been named to the 2023 Spring Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll. 

To be named Pac-12 Honor Roll, one must meet the following requirements:

  • Any student-athlete on their respective team roster with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3-or-above
  • Who has served at least one year in residence at the institution 

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
  • Be listed on the institutional eligibility form

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
  • All student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
  • All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year
