TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After Monday’s competition at the ITA Southern Championships, Ole Miss men’s tennis will have a pair of representatives in the final match of doubles play with the duo of John Hallquist Lithen and Simon Junk earning a spot in Tuesday’s championship match.
The Rebel pair were set to face off against Auburn’s Finn Murgett and Tyler Stice in Monday’s semifinal. Due to a walk-off injury, the Ole Miss pair was able to advance to the finals.
Lithen and Junk will meet their final duo Stefan Latinovic and Nick Watson of LSU on Tuesday. The pair hopes to claim the sixth ITA Doubles Regional title for Ole Miss, as well as the first since Zvonimir Babic and Filip Kraljevic took home the 2017 doubles crown.
In the ITA Southern Regional Singles bracket, Nikola Slavic competed in a hard-fought quarterfinal matchup with Roan Jones of Alabama. The first set matched the pace for the rest of the competition as both athletes fought for every point, forcing a tiebreaker. Slavic pumped the gas to win the tiebreaker and the first set 7-6(2).
Following the first set, Slavic went back into battle but was unable to hold his momentum and dropped the next two sets 6-4 to end his streak at the ITA Regionals.
