TAMPA, Fla. – The Penn State men’s tennis team fell to South Florida on Wednesday. The squad played well on the road, but ultimately dropped the match, 6-1.
DOUBLES
Playing at the No. 1 spot, Nolan Ranger and Ari Cotoulas dropped their match, 6-1, against No. 72 Alvin Tudorica and Erik Grevelius. At No. 3, Stefan Simeunovic and Jack Martuccio fell, 7-6, in a close match against Bruno Oliveira and Ben Hudson.
Miko Eala and Alex Sterin partnered together against Tom Pavlekovich-Smith and Agustin Cuellar. The match was tied 6-6, but went unfinished as the doubles point had already been clinched by South Florida.
SINGLES
Simeunovic played a strong match, defeating Oliveria, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot. It marked Simeunovic’s fifth win of the Spring.
At No. 1, Eala dropped a tough match, 6-2, 7-6(8), against No.45 Tudorica. Ranger played at No.2, falling to his opponent, Grevelius, 6-2, 6-3. Martuccio went into a third set, but ultimately dropped, 7-5, 5-7, 10-7, against Pisane at the No. 4 spot. Cotoulas fell, 6-3, 7-6, at No. 5 against Pavlekovich-Smith. Sterin dropped his match at No. 6 to Cuellar, 6-1, 6-1.
UP NEXT
The Nittany Lions will travel to Ithica, N.Y. to take on Cornell on Sunday, Mar. 17. The match will be held at the Reis Tennis Center at 2p.m.
