Men's Tennis Continues Pac-12 Road Swing at California, Stanford


Coming off a thrilling 4-3 victory at Arizona State, the UCLA men’s tennis team continues Pac-12 play on the road this week in Northern California. The Bruins start the trip Friday (1 p.m. PT) at Hellman Tennis Complex, where they face California, before heading across the Bay Saturday (1 p.m.) to meet No. 24 Stanford at Taube Family Tennis Center.

LAST TIME OUT

With all eyes on his court, freshman Azuma Visaya prevailed in three sets to give visiting UCLA a thrilling 4-3 conference victory against Arizona State April 2 at Whiteman Tennis Center. Visaya and Giacomo Revelli won the final two matches of the day for the Bruins. Gianlucca Ballotta also logged a singles win for UCLA, which began the day by taking the doubles point. The Sun Devils got wins from Murphy Cassone, Roi Ginat and Max McKennon.

UCLA VS. CALIFORNIA, STANFORD

UCLA holds a 102-16 all-time record versus California. The Bruins bounced back from an early deficit to defeat the Golden Bears by a 4-1 score March 25, 2022 at Los Angeles Tennis Center. UCLA swept the four completes singles matches, with three going the distance. Karl Lee provided the heroics with his first-career clinching win. Alexander Hoogmartens, Stefan Leustian and Giacomo Revelli were also victorious on the singles courts. Cal seized the doubles point, but could not get on the board again. UCLA is 76-57 against Stanford. The Bruins were overcome late by the Cardinal, which registered a 4-2 win March 26, 2022 at LATC. Hoogmartens won on the singles and doubles courts, including a straight-set triumph over the nation’s No. 2 player, Arthur Fery. That made it 2-0 in favor of the Bruins, who started the day by winning the doubles point convincingly. Stanford bounced back, however, getting wins from Axel Geller, Alexandre Rotsaert, Timothy Sah and Max Basing, who clinched the victory.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS, CARDINAL

Ranked No. 43 by the ITA, California is 9-7 overall and 1-2 in Pac-12 play. Yuta Kikuchi is No. 37 in the singles rankings. On the doubles side, Ryder Jackson and Lucas Magnaudet team to form the No. 60 doubles pair. Stanford, meanwhile, is 11-6 (2-1). The Cardinal…
