Men's Tennis Continues Fall Play at SoCal Intercollegiates

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men’s tennis team continued the fall portion of its 2022-23 schedule on the campus of USC, where four Bruins were in action at the SoCal Intercollegiate Championships.

Freshman Aadarsh Tripathi, redshirt sophomore Jeffrey Fradkin and juniors Stefan Leustian and Timothy Li each played singles matches at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium, while Leustian and Li formed a doubles pair.

Tripathi notched two wins, reaching the quarterfinal round before being felled by top-seeded and 67th-ranked Phillip Jordan of UC Santa Barbara. En route to the round of eight, Tripathi knocked off Leyton Bohren of Azusa Pacific 6-1, 6-3 and Eleftherios Neos of Portland 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Fradkin and Leustian, who each were eliminated in the second round, bounced back for victories in extra-match competition. Leustian dealt Christian Kuehne of the University of San Diego a 6-4, 6-3 loss, while Fradkin knocked off Alex Edmonston of Concordia University Irvine 7-5, 6-1.

In doubles play, Leustian and Li prevailed against Edmonston and Tim Nutz of CUI 8-6. The Bruins would push the second-seeded and 10th-ranked tandem of Portland’s Neos and Sema Pankin to its limit, but was stopped short in an 8-7(5) decision.

Next up for UCLA is the ITA National Fall Championships, which will feature 23rd-ranked and ITA Southwest Regional championships singles runner-up Alexander Hoogmartens. The sophomore is set to compete at Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego from Nov. 2-6.
