Men’s Tennis Continues Conference Action at No. 4 Michigan and No. 67 Michigan State


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s tennis team (13-7, 0-4 B1G) hit the road to take on No. 4 Michigan (17-2, 3-0 B1G) on Friday, April 7 at 4:00 p.m. ET, before traveling to East Lansing to play No. 67 Michigan State (7-10, 0-3 B1G) on Sunday, April 9 at noon ET.

LAST TIME OUT 

Penn State is coming off a B1G weekend in Happy Valley. Charl Morgan earned his 30th career singles win at No. 1 against Nebraska’s Roni Hietaranta in a 6-3, 7-6(6), 6-4 match on Sunday. 

PREVIEWING THE WOLVERINES 

Michigan is 17-2 coming into this weekend’s matchup against Penn State with a 9-0 home record. The Wolverines won their most recent match in a 4-3 contest against then-ranked No. 35 Louisville. They currently boast four ranked singles players in No. 8 Ondrej Styler, No. 15 Andrew Fenty, No. 25 Patrick Maloney, and No. 45 Gavin Young. Young and Fenty also hold the ninth-ranked position in doubled.  

The Nittany Lions are looking for their sicth win all-time over the Wolverines in Big Ten action.  

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS 

Michigan State holds a 7-10 record throughout the spring season, including a 5-1 away record. They defeated then-ranked No. 69 Virginia Tech in their most recent match, 5-2. Spartan Ozan Baris is currently the No. 40 ranked singles player in the nation and competes as part of the No. 6 doubles team with Max Sheldon.  

Penn State earned the most recent win between the two programs in a 4-3 decision in Happy Valley last season. The Nittany Lions hold the all-time advantage with 12 wins and look to improve upon that record this weekend.
