Men’s Tennis Concludes Play at Yale Invitational – Penn State

NEW HAVEN, CONN.- The Penn State Men’s Tennis team finished its first fall tournament of the season this past weekend. The men played in both singles and doubles matches against players from Cornell, NJIT, Buffalo and Yale. 

Doubles duo Loren Byers, a senior, and David Lindsay, a freshman, captured a 3-1 record on the weekend, defeating NJIT’s German Lopez and Soma Fukuhara 6-4, Yale’s Renaud Lefevre and Luke Neal, 6-3, and Cornell’s Petar Teodorovic and Jack McCarthy, 6-4. 

Lindsay, making his collegiate debut, went undefeated in singles matches. He collected wins against Buffalo’s Faiz Nasyam, in a 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(2) matchup, NJIT’s German Lopez, 6-0, 2-6, 6-2, and Buffalo’s Daniils Snaiders, 7-5, 4-6, [10-7]. 

Going 2-1 in singles, and making his collegiate debut, freshman Shrikeshav Murugesan defeated Buffalo’s Faiz Nasyam, 6-4, 6-4, and NJIT’s Soma Fukuhara, 7-5, 6-4.

Up next, the Nittany Lions will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for the ITA Regionals on Oct. 17-21.
