THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team concluded the ITA Kickoff with a 4-1 loss to No. 20 Pepperdine on Sunday, Jan. 30.
Pepperdine claimed an early lead after clinching the doubles point. Even though Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel were up 5-4 on court one, their match went unfinished after Pepperdine earned two consecutive victories on court two and three.
Martin was the lone winner for the Jackets in singles play. He dominated Pepperdine’s Daniel De Jonge with 6-3, 6-2 victories.
McDaniel made a triumphant comeback in the second set of his match, winning it 7-5 after being down 5-2. He was up 1-0 in the third set before the end of the match. Elias Shokry was also on the way to making a comeback against Pepperdine’s Eric Hadigian. After losing the first set 5-7, he commanded a 6-1 win in the second. However, both McDaniel’s and Shokry’s singles matches went unfinished. Pepperdine was able to secure its victory when Tech’s Keshav Chopra fell to Eero Vasa 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
