Men's Tennis Closes Out Wildcat Invite, Battle in the Bay


TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona closed out the Wildcat Invitational and Battle in the Bay tournament this afternoon after a weekend of competition.

The Wildcats went undefeated in doubles this weekend, winning each of the three draws. First to win Sunday was Cole Stelse and Iñaki Cabrera-Bello on court two, with a 6-0 shutout over Kakhniuk/Tallakson of UNM. Next up was freshmen Matthias Kask and Santiago Padilla-Cote on court three with a 6-3 win over Fairclough/Ampaw of Gonzaga. Wrapping doubles for the Cats was freshman Filip Gustafsson and sophomore Alexander Rozin, who won their draw in a 7-6(5) breaker against Torres/Pracher of NAU. 

Five Cats went undefeated and won their singles draw this afternoon. First up was Stelse – who had a stellar weekend to kick off his Arizona career after red-shirting his freshman year – with a swift 6-1, 6-1 domination over Feigin of NMSU. Gustafsson, also kicking off his college career undefeated, won his draw with a 6-4, 7-6(5) win over Torres of NAU. Following close behind was Padilla-Cote who came out on top of his draw with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Mills (NAU). Finishing next was Cabrera-Bello, who came back after losing his first set to win his draw 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2 over Tallakson (UNM). Wrapping up a victorious weekend for the Cats was Kask with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 win over SDSU’s Holland Snell.

Rozin was forced to medically retire from his singles match vs. Maksymchuk at 4-6, 4-3. 

In the Bay

Freshman Oskar Jansson had a singles win in San Francisco today in a consolation match against Cigna of Arizona rival ASU, with a 7-6, 6-3 win.
