WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Tennessee men’s tennis representatives will be in action this week at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, hosted by Purdue at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
The competition begins Thursday, Oct. 10, and runs through Monday, Oct. 14. This tournament includes schools from around the Ohio Valley area. The full draws and schedule can be found on the tournament webpage of by clicking here.
The two singles finalists from each region earn an automatic bid for the NCAA Singles Championship, while the doubles champion from each region will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship.
A quartet of individuals will be representing the Vols, as Alan Jesudason, Alex Kotzen, Shunsuke Mitsui and Alejandro Moreno will take their talents to West Lafayette and compete in both the singles and doubles draw.
PLAYER BREAKDOWN
Alan Jesudason currently sits at an undefeated 3-0 record in singles and a 3-0 mark in doubles for the season to date after competing in the MTSU Hidden Dual. The senior is currently the only Vol to sit at an undefeated 6-0 total record on the season.
Alex Kotzen is coming off a performance at the ITA All-American Championships where he earned his first career win as a Vol after defeating No. 1 Ozan Baris of Michigan State 7-5, 7-5. The New York native was ranked as the 34th singles player in the nation in the ITA National Preseason Rankings.
Shunsuke Mitsui has already tallied six singles victories on the season to date, and he currently sits at 98 wins for his career. The senior looks to be the third Vol in the past two seasons to reach 100 singles victories, joining recent graduate Angel Diaz and Johannus Monday. Mitsui was named the ITA Ohio Valley Region Player to Watch back in June, adding to his impressive list of accolades in his Tennessee career.
Alejandro Moreno holds a 3-0 singles mark and 2-1 doubles record on the season so far after taking part in the MTSU Hidden Dual. The Knoxville native was ranked as the 111th overall singles player in the country in the ITA National Preseason Rankings.
