CHATTANOOGA – Members of Tennessee’s men’s tennis squad are set to compete in the annual ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, hosted by Chattanooga at the Champions Club Tennis Complex, beginning Thursday, October 12.
 
The 128-player singles and 64-team doubles tournament runs Thursday through Monday, with main singles action beginning at 12 p.m. ET and main doubles action starting at 9 a.m. ET Thursday.
 
Junior Chris Li, along with freshmen James Newton and Filip Apltauer will be representing the Vols. Li and Newton are coming off an impressive showing at the Big 12/SEC Challenge, where they posted 3-0 and 2-1 singles records, respectively. 
 
22 teams will be participating in the Regional– Austin Peay, Ball State, Bellarmine, Belmont, Butler, Dayton, ETSU, IUPUI, Indiana, Kentucky, Lipscomb, Louisville, Memphis, MTSU, Northern Kentucky, Purdue, Tennessee Tech, UT-Chattanooga, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Wright State and Xavier.
 
The singles and doubles champions and finalists of the Regional will advance to the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego, California, running Nov. 1-5.
 
Thursday’s Schedule:
Doubles
Filip Apltauer/James Newton (Tennessee) vs. Igor Mandou Berranger/Karim Al-Amin (MTSU) – 9 a.m. ET
 
Singles
James Newton (Tennessee) vs. Rahulniket Konakanchi (Butler) – 12 p.m. ET
Filip Apltauer (Tennessee) vs. Luis Saraiva (Dayton) – 2:30 p.m. ET
Chris Li (Tennessee) vs. Jakub Jupa (Chattanooga) – 3:30 p.m. ET
