Men's Tennis Blanks Louisville For 3-0 ACC Start


LOUISVILLE, KY.—Benjamin Kittay won the clincher at No. 6 singles as the 10th-ranked University of North Carolina men’s tennis team shotout No. 20 Louisville, 4-0, on the road on Sunday afternoon.  The Tar Heels won their third match in a row to start Atlantic Coast Conference play and improved to 10-4, 3-0 ACC.

Carolina started the afternoon by winning a tough doubles point, including getting an initial win by the 56th-ranked duo of Will Jansen and Karl Poling at No. 2, 6-1. Brian Cernoch and Kittay, ranked, No. 37, won the clincher by beating 14th-ranked Fabien Salle and Natan Rodrigues in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5).

UNC went 3-0 in singles play to seize the team victory. Karl Poling started things off with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Salle at No. 3, before Anuj Watane beat Andre Steinbach, 6-2, 6-1, for a 3-0 lead. Kittay won the clincher, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

The Tar Heels will return to action on Sunday March 12 at home against Wofford.
