Men's Tennis Announces Fall '22 Slate

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—University of North Carolina head men’s tennis coach Sam Paul has released the team’s Fall 2022 schedule, a slate that includes a number of individual events.

The Fall will kickoff on Sept. 16-18 at the Knoxville Showdown, hosted by the University of Tennessee. UNC will visit Charleston for the Charleston Challenger the following week on Sept. 25-26 in Daniel Island, S.C.

Official events with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association will begin in October with the ITA Men’s All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., from Oct. 1-9 and the ITA Regionals in Cary from Oct. 21-25.

In late October, members of the UNC team could potentially take part in several individual events. On Oct. 23, Carolina could compete in the ITF Tallahassee event in Florida or the event in Norman, Okla., hosted by the University of Oklahoma.  On Oct. 30, the possible events are the ITF Fayetteville in Arkansas or the Charlottesville Challenge hosted by the University of Virginia.

The Fall campaign will wrap up at the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego on Nov. 2-6.

Entering his 30th year at the helm of the Tar Heel program, Paul welcomes back eight letterwinners from the 2021-22 campaign, including fifth-year senior and three-time All-America Brian Cernoch. Other returnees are fifth-year senior Henry Lieberman, seniors Mark Dillon and Anuj Watane, juniors Peter Murphy and Logan Zapp and sophomores Casey Kania and Chris Li.

The Tar Heels will feature three newcomers this Fall, including freshman Benjamin Kittay of Potomac, Md., and a pair of graduate transfers from Princeton University in Karl Poling and Ryan Seggerman.

UNC will begin its dual match season in January.
