DAY 5 –
Norfolk, Va. – Matt Harper and Alberto Orso played in the finals for doubles on Monday. They fell 6-3, 6-4 to Liberty University, but walked away as runners-up in the tournament.
DAY 4 –
Norfolk, Va. – Six Hokies competed in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
Matt Harper and Alberto Orso won the quarterfinals 8-6 against Old Dominion’s Cosme Rolland De Ravel and Adam Majchrzak.
Moving onto the semifinals, Harper and Orso faced off against Mans Dahlberg and Dylan Dietrich from the University of Virginia. The Tech duo walked away with a 1-6, 6-2, 10-5 win. The pair will compete in the finals on Monday.
DAY 3 –
Norfolk, Va. – Maxime St. Hilaire won two matches on Saturday, advancing him to play in the quarterfinals on Sunday. His first match was won against Old Dominion’s Aryan Saleh, 6-3, 6-0. In his second matchup, he defeated German Samofalov from VCU also in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
Duo Ilyas Fahim and Julian Lozano will also play in the quarterfinals on Sunday, with two wins by scores of 8-4 and 8-5.
Matt Harper and Alberto Orso, Julian Lozano and Ilyas Fahim, and Frank Thompson and Maxime St. Hilaire secured spots in the quarterfinals with wins on Saturday as well.
DAY 2 –
Norfolk, Va. – The Hokies continued play on Friday, marking the first day of main draw singles and doubles.
Ilyas Fahim, Frank Thompson, and Maxime St. Hilaire all picked up singles wins early Friday, advancing to R32.
Freshman Patrik Jurina notched his first win as a Hokie, against Edson Sanchez of James Madison, by a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Julian Lozano, another new addition to Tech’s roster, also won his first match in the maroon and orange in straight sets against William & Mary’s Gur Trakhtenberg, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles play, all five pairs of Tech athletes advanced to R32. Freshmen duo Damian Sancilio and Patrik Jurina won 8-7, going 7-5 in the tiebreaker.
Matt Harper and Alberto Orso advanced against VCU by a score of 8-0, and Ryan Morgan and Diego Cueto De Romana won against Hampton University 8-1. The three other pairs advanced on a bye.
DAY 1 –
Norfolk, Va. – The weekend kicked off on Thursday, Oct. 10 in Norfolk, Virginia, with ten hokies competing in ITA Regionals.
Diego Cueto de Romana secured a first round win, by a score of 6-4, 6-2 against Makkijha Brown of Morgan State University.
Damian Sancilio picked up his first win as a Hokie against Mount St. Mary’s University’s Luke Papayoanou, 6-1, 6-4.
