Martin Katz Qualifies for NCAA Singles Championships – University of Miami Athletics


TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Senior Martin Katz qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships in Waco, Texas, after reaching the semifinals of the ITA Sectionals Championships on Saturday afternoon.

Katz started his run for a punched ticket with a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 win over UCF’s Santiago Giamichelle in the round of 32. Then, he secured back-to-back 6-2, 6-2 wins over Nate Bonetto (GT) and No. 62 Andrii Zimnokh (ALA) to slide into the semifinals for an automatic qualification into the NCAA Singles Championships.

Mississippi State’s Niccolo Baronni then withdrew, sending Katz directly into the finals. There, he fell to Roan Jones (ALA), 6-3, 7-6 (1), to end his time in Tallahassee.

The NCAA Individual Championships will take place in Waco, Texas, on Nov. 19-24.
