The senior won five consecutive matches to become the consolation champion at the tournament.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Lukas Greif concluded the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Southeast Regional on a high note for the Gators by winning the consolation finals on Monday morning at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State.
Greif completed his run through the consolation bracket by powering past Miami’s Franco Aubone in straights 6-4, 6-2. The senior won five consecutive matches to lead the Gators in wins at the tournament. With nine wins now on the fall season, Greif is tied for second on the team with junior Will Grant.
Florida tallied 18 wins overall – four in doubles and 14 in singles – and finished with the second most wins among the 15 schools competing.
“I would like to thank Brian Ormiston and FSU for hosting and organizing this regional event,” said Head Coach Bryan Shelton. “The weather was perfect and my coaches and staff did a great job all weekend. As a team, we finished stronger than we started and I thought we gained a lot of valuable experience throughout the weekend. What our guys do with that information and experience is what matters most. Definitely have a high character group here to work with and that character is what will continue to drive us forward. There were a lot of great matches throughout the weekend, and it was so nice to see Lukas Greif close out the tournament with five consecutive singles wins.”
UP NEXT: Florida will be hosting the Gator Fall Invite at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex, beginning on Friday, November 4 through Sunday, November 6.
