Luescher, Matsuda Advance To Doubles Semifinal Of ITA Sectional


LOS ANGELES – Sophie Luescher and Erika Matsuda led the doubles Dawgs Friday at Marks Tennis Stadium in the second day of action at the 2024 ITA West Sectional Championship.

The upperclassmen pair picked up two wins over an Arizona State and Colorado duo to advance to the doubles semifinal on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Alexia Jacobs was the last of the remaining singles players for UW Friday, losing a consolation match to Passola Folch (Cal), 6-3, 6-4.

Jacobs and doubles partner Reece Carter also fell to Passola Folch and Lan Mi from the Golden Bears, 6-3, 6-3 to leave Matsuda and Luescher as the only left to compete Saturday in Los Angeles.

Three doubles teams from the sectional will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship – the champion, finalist, and third place finishers.
