WACO, TX. – South Carolina men’s tennis junior Lucas da Silva will make his NCAA Individual Championship debut tomorrow, competing in the six-day event from Nov. 19-24 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
After his performance at the ITA East Sectional Championship two weeks ago where he advanced to the finals in singles before falling to Princeton’s Paul Inchauspe in two sets, da Silva automatically qualified for his first NCAA Individual Championship. His first match of the tournament will be a rematch as da Silva is set to face NC State’s No. 57 Luca Staeheli, who he defeated at sectionals in the quarterfinals 7-6(4), 6-3. The two compete in the first round of 64 at 5:00 p.m. (EST) tomorrow.
The Gamecock goes into this tournament with a 13-5 overall singles record with two wins and three losses against ranked opponents.
