CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Lucas da Silva will represent the Garnet & Black at the NCAA Individual Championship later this month for the first time in his career as he automatically qualified for the event after winning his quarterfinals singles match on day three of the ITA Sectional Championship.
The junior faced NC State’s Luca Staeheli, defeating the senior in two sets. The Gamecock won a tight first set after a tiebreaker 7-6 (4) before dominating the final set 6-3. Tomorrow da Silva will take on second seeded Cooper Williams of Duke in the semifinals at 10:00 a.m.
For Gamecock doubles action, Casey Hoole and Connor Thomson advanced from semifinals of the consolation bracket due to their opponents withdrawing and are slated to play Maxwell Smith and Noa Vukadin of Clemson tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
