Lucas da Silva Advances to Quarterfinals in Singles at ITA Sectionals – University of South Carolina Athletics

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis completed day two of the ITA Sectional Championship on Friday afternoon, sending one Gamecock to the quarterfinals in singles.

Lucas da Silva fought for three sets before defeating Luca Pow of Wake Forest to advance out of the round of 16. He won a tight contested first set 7-6 (4) before dropping the second set 1-6. The junior claimed the victory after bouncing back 6-4 for the final set.

Casey Hoole dropped his match 0-6, 4-6 to NC State’s Braden Shick.

Hoole and Thomson played doubles in the consolation bracket quarterfinals, defeating Adit Sinha and Nathan Mao of Cornell in two sets of 6-3. The duo faces teammates Jelani Sarr and Lucas da Silva, who advanced due to their opponents withdrawing for injury, tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.

Braden Shick (NCSU) def. Casey Hoole (SC) 6-0, 6-4
