OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss men’s tennis wrapped up the team’s fall tournament season with a pair of Rebels finding their way into the ITA’s final fall singles rankings, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Wednesday.
John Hallquist Lithen and Nikola Slavic wrapped up their fall season amongst some of the nation’s best, with Lithen earning a No. 82 overall ranking in singles with Slavic not far behind with a ranking of No. 99.
Lithen proved a dominant force on the court this fall, finishing 7-3 in singles while also grabbing three wins over ranked opponents including wins over the No. 59, No. 67 and No. 91 ranked players in the country.
The Gothenburg, Sweden, native played his way into the ITA Southern Regional’s Round of 16 in singles before eventually falling, marking the furthest point that the junior has reached in regional singles play in his Ole Miss career.
Additionally, Lithen found success for the Rebels in doubles play as well this fall, as he and doubles partner Simon Junk battled their way towards finishing at ITA Southern Regional Runners-Up in doubles and punching their ticket into the ITA National Fall Championships.
Slavic’s fall season wrapped up with the senior finishing 4-4 in singles action, including one ranked win over Georgia’s Teodor Giusca at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Slavic reached as far as the ITA Southern Regional Quarterfinals in this year’s installment of singles play, coming off of his 2021 regional title.
The defending All-American has now maintained a spot in the ITA singles rankings dating back to April 6, 2022, standing as the longest active streak on the Rebel roster.
The Ole Miss men’s tennis team now enters their winter break period, as the Rebels are set to return to action in January for the beginning of the team’s spring dual season. The ITA is set to announce their preseason team rankings Jan. 4.
