Liam Broady to miss Nottingham Open after freak head injury

Liam Broady will not take part in the 2024 Rothesay Open in Nottingham after suffering a concussion when hitting his head on his car boot, Britain’s fifth-ranked player said on Tuesday.

Broady was due to compete at the grass-court event that serves as a warmup tournament for Wimbledon. The Rothesay Open runs from June 8-16.

“Some bad news… Was on track for next week but I hit my head on my car boot on Sunday evening quite hard,” Broady said in a post on X.

“Tried to practice yesterday and got a pretty bad migraine. Turns out I have a concussion! So won’t be ready for Nottingham. Hopefully [I’ll return for the] Ilkley [tournament] if all goes to plan.”

Andy Murray made light of his compatriot’s misfortune in a reply to Broady’s post. “Think this is the first time I’ve read one of your tweets and believed it,” the two-time Wimbledon winner said.

The Nottingham tournament has been an ATP Challenger Tour event since 2017.
