THE FLATS – Carol Lee jumped into the top 10 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released on Tuesday. Lee leads a trio of Yellow Jackets in the top 100 in singles.
After picking up a pair of ranked wins over the weekend, Lee climbed to No. 8 nationally. Lee has opened the dual match season going 9-0 in singles action after topping NC State’s Diana Shnaider and Casie Wooten of Wake Forest over the weekend. Lee handed Shnaider, who is also ranked No. 94 in the WTA, her first loss of the season in a 6-1, 6-3 fashion.
Joining Lee in the national singles rankings are teammates Kylie Bilchev and Mahak Jain. Bilchev climbed to No. 27, while Jain rose to No. 99. Bilchev stands at 8-1 in dual match play at the No. 2 position after edging then-No. 15 Alana Smith of NC State in three sets. Bilchev comes into the weekend on a three-match win streak.
Jain boasts a 9-2 dual singles record and has won three straight. Jain went undefeated last weekend, collecting a pair of straight-set wins at NC State and Wake Forest to climb nine spots in the rankings.
The Yellow Jackets open a five-match homestand on Friday, March 10 welcoming No. 1 North Carolina to the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
