Lan Mi Wins Singles Title At SMC Fall Invite

MORAGA – California women’s tennis junior Lan Mi captured the top-flight singles title at the Saint Mary’s Fall Invitational on Sunday, defeating teammate Berta Passola Folch in the final, while Passola Folch and Makenna Thiel won the Blue doubles consolation final for the Golden Bears on the last day of the tournament.
 
Mi beat Passola Folch, 7-5, 7-6(2), in the Blue singles final, after besting San Francisco’s Katerina Filip, 7-5, 4-6, 6-0, in the semifinal round. In the other semifinal, Passola Folch beat Thiel, 7-5, 6-2.
 
In the doubles consolation title match, Thiel and Passola Folch knocked off Sacramento State’s Warisara Lee and Mayya Gorbunova, 7-5.
 
Next up for Cal’s Hannah Viller Moeller, Mao Mushika, Jessica Alsola and Katja Wiersholm is the ITA National Fall Championships, slated for Wednesday through Sunday in San Diego. Another Cal contingent will play in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational from Friday through Sunday in Tempe, Arizona.
