Lady Vols Keep Fall Homestand Rolling with Tennessee Fall Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Just two days after the conclusion of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional tournament, the Tennessee women’s tennis team is back in action on Rocky Top, hosting the Tennessee Fall Invitational beginning Thursday at 5 p.m. at Barksdale Stadium.

“This weekend is very exciting for our team to be back in action at home on a very energetic weekend on our campus with all that is going on,” head coach Alison Ojeda said. “What excites me the most about this weekend is the fact that we get to see how our bodies and minds will respond to back-to-back weekends of tough competition. It will give us good insight as to what our team and newcomers can expect come springtime.”

Following the mega-tournament from a week ago, featuring over 100 players across three sites and qualifying draws, this weekend’s event will be a much more intimate setting. Four teams will partake in the festivities, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia Tech and Virginia, across four days of play beginning Thursday evening and concluding Sunday morning.

“I know we only had a short couple of days to practice,” Ojeda continued. “But we look good. We are ready to get back out there and compete.”

Last tournament finished with a championship in singles for Elza Tomase, defending her title from a season ago. She faced Daria Kuczer, who was the runner-up and qualified for the ITA National Fall Championship which will be played from Nov. 2-6 in San Diego, California. Also qualifying was Kuczer and Eleonora Molinaro in doubles after finishing as the runner up in that draw.
