Lady Vols Add Catherine Aulia to 2022 Signing Class

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee women’s tennis has added its second individual to the 2022 signing class, Catherine Aulia, head coach Alison Ojeda announced on Tuesday morning.

Aulia, a native of Sydney, Australia, owns a 10.20 Universal Tennis Rating and was granted an Australian Open singles qualifying wildcard for the 2022 tournament where she faced the current 17th-ranked player on the WTA Tour, Catherine McNally.

“I am very excited to continue our tradition of Australian Junior tennis players coming over to the States to compete for the University of Tennessee,” head coach Alison Ojeda said. “Catherine is a very good tennis player who is going to make an immediate impact in our lineup. More importantly, she’s a fun-loving person who has a great sense of humor. She is certainly someone you want to be around every day.”

“In regards to her development on the court,” Ojeda continued, “I believe we have a coaching staff fit perfectly for her. We will help develop her skill set both mentally and physically so we can help prepare her for the professional tour after college. We are thrilled to get going with Catherine starting in the Fall.”

Aulia has spent time this summer playing tennis in America, competing recently at an ITF/USTA event in San Diego, California where she advanced to the semifinals of the tournament in singles. In that same tournament, she teamed up with future teammate Daria Kuczer, and the duo advanced to the semifinals before being defeated.

“Catherine is a great addition to our team, she comes from a wonderful family and is a pleasure to be around,” associate head coach Jarryd Chaplin said. “We are excited to get to work, she will bring a lot of value to our group. Catherine is very aware of her game and what is required to reach her goals both in the classroom and on the tennis court.”

Aulia joins Lauren Anzalotta as newcomers that will arrive on campus in the fall and will compete during the entire 2022-23 season.
