Kovacevic, Vukic Set to Play in Quarterfinals in ATP Challenger


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Former Illini duo Aleks Kovacevic and Aleks Vukic will play in the singles quarterfinals, while Zeke Clark will play in the doubles semifinals tomorrow at the Paine Schwartz partners $50,000 USTA Challenger at Atkins Tennis Center. 

Vukic is slated to compete against Spain’s Nicolas Alvarez Varona at approximately 5 p.m. The Australian defeated United States’ Patrick Kypson, 6-4, 6-2 two days prior.

Kovacevic will play the United States’ Steve Johnson at 11 a.m., after defeating United States’ Ernesto Escobedo in a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 Wednesday evening. 

Kovacevic and partner Ben Shelton lost in doubles play to Theo Arribage of France and Luke Johnson of Great Britain, 6-3, 3-6 10-2. 

Alumnus Clark and partner Alfredo Perez won their doubles match against Alex Lawson and Treat Huey, 6-4, 6-7(5), 10-5.  

Kovacevic and Shelton will go on to face Lawson and Huey tomorrow at approximately 2 p.m.
