Koenig Puts Up First Win Of Year At All-Americans


CARY, N.C. — McKenna Koenig earned the first win of the season for the Husky women’s tennis team today, as the transfer advanced to round two of the ITA All-American Championships prequalifying in Cary, North Carolina.
 
Koenig was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over new Big Ten rival Maryland’s Danielle Hack. She will face Leonie Moeller of Memphis on Sunday at 6 a.m. Pacific time as she tries to reach the qualifying rounds.
 
Junior Erika Matsuda dropped a three-setter to Eva Elbaz of Princeton, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, in her first round match. She’ll look to win in the consolation draw tomorrow.
 
Matsuda and Koenig also teamed together in doubles but dropped their opener to Mulville/Van Vuuren of Kansas, 6-2, 6-3.
