Kimchi Falls in NCAA Singles Opening Round


STILLWATER, Okla. – Duke women’s tennis freshman Shavit Kimchi concluded her time at the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship Monday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla. 

Kimchi fell to 19th-ranked Sarah Hamner of South Carolina, 7-5 (5), 6-2, in the opening round. 

Kimchi trailed 4-2 in the opening set and fought back to force a tiebreak, but ultimately fell 7-5 in the tiebreaker. The second set was tied, 2-2, before the Sdey Hemed, Israel native dropped the next four games (6-2). 

One of the top freshmen in the nation, Kimchi finishes her rookie campaign 17-12 in singles matches.
