Kimchi Earns ACC Freshman of the Week Accolades

DURHAM – For the second time this season, Duke women’s tennis rookie Shavit Kimchi has been tabbed the ACC Freshman of the Week, as announced on Tuesday by the league office.

Kimchi, who hails from Sdey Hemed, Israel, posted a 2-0 record on the week in singles, while leading the Blue Devils to a victory over 46th-ranked Clemson.  On Friday against the Tigers, Kimchi collected a 6-1, 7-5 win against Daniella Medvedeva to clinch the victory for the Blue Devils.  Kimchi has clinched five of the nine wins for Duke on the season and is one away from matching the Duke school record for a freshman (since 2005-06).

In Sunday’s match versus Georgia Tech, Kimchi collected a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alejandra Cruz to give her three wins out of her last four matches on the year.  It marked her third ACC singles win of the season and eighth dual match victory.

Kimchi also earned the honor on Jan. 23.  She shared this week’s honor along with North Carolina’s Tatum Evans.

Duke is set to conclude non-conference action Wednesday, March 12 as the 24th-ranked Blue Devils face 37th-ranked Princeton at 12:30 p.m., in Orlando, Fla.
