Kimchi Clinches Again as Duke Registers 7-0 Win Over Princeton

ORLANDO, Fla. – For the sixth time this season, Duke women’s tennis freshman Shavit Kimchi clinched a victory for the 24th-ranked Blue Devils on Wednesday in a 7-0 win over 37th-ranked Princeton at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus in Orlando, Fla. 
 
The Blue Devils (10-5) concluded non-conference action in the victory against the Tigers (8-4). 
 
How It Happened

  • Duke jumped out to an impressive start by taking all three doubles courts and holding a 1-0 lead early.
  • The Blue Devil duo of Emma Jackson and Karolina Berankova posted a 6-4 victory over Eva Elbaz and Bella Chhiv of the Tigers on court two.
  • Court three officially clinched the doubles point as Duke’s Brianna Shvets and Iuliia Bryzgalova collected a 6-4 win over Alice Ferlito and Neha Velaga.
  • Duke also registered a win on court one as Shavit Kimchi and Katie Codd were solid with a 6-2 win over Madeleine Jessup and Maia Sung.
  • The Blue Devils continued their hot play in singles as 93rd-ranked Jackson registered a quick, 6-1, 6-0, victory on court two against Leena Bennetto.
  • Shvets, who is ranked No. 110 nationally, then put the Blue Devils ahead, 3-0, with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jessup on court five.
  • Duke was able to clinch the win on court one as 97th-ranked Kimchi collected a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Velaga to give Duke a 4-0 advantage.
  • After totaling a 7-5 win in the first set, Berankova dropped the second, 6-1, against Chhiv, but was able to notch a 10-7 tiebreaking win to put the Blue Devils ahead, 5-0.
