ORLANDO, FL – In her first NCAA Singles Championship appearance, Ludmila Kareiosva is set to face Michigan’s Kari Miller in the Round of 64. The event on the UTSA National Campus in Orlando commences on Monday and ends with the finals on Saturday.
Kariesova received an at-large selection into the 64-participant singles field. The Rebel sophomore currently ranks No. 46 in the ITA Singles Rankings, her highest of the season. Kariesova racked up 18 total singles wins this season and compiled a 7-3 record in SEC dual matches. The sophomore is also responsible for seven ranked wins, including defeating the highest-ranked opponent of her career against the 21st-best player in the nation.
The Liberec, Czechia native will need to continue her success against ranked in a tough bracket full of them. Kareisova begins by facing No. 36 Kari Miller of Michigan, who finished with the same singles record as Kareisova of 18-12. Miller played primarily at No. 1 and No. 2 singles with a 13-4 dual singles record. The two players competed against each other early in the spring on the first day of the Michigan Spring Invitational. Kareisova would fall in three sets 0-6, 6-3, 2-6.
With a win, the sophomore would advance to the Round of 32 to play either Duke’s Georgia Drummy or Texas A&M’s Mary Stoiana. Primarily playing at No. 4 singles, No. 62 Drummy tallied an 11-3 dual singles record and an overall 13-6 singles record. Kareisova and Drummy have yet to meet this season. No. 2 Stoiana is 38-5 in singles and 24-2 in dual singles in her sophomore campaign. She is also 18-4 against ranked opponents. Kareisova and Stoiana competed against each other at No. 1 singles when the Rebels and Aggies played each other back in April. The Rebels’ Second Team All-SEC honoree would fall in two sets, 6-1, 6-4.
Kareisova looks to be the first Rebel to win an NCAA Singles Championship match since Rebel alum Arianne Hartono won the entire event in 2018.
