SAN FRANCISCO – After shutting out the L.A. schools last weekend, senior Jonas Ziverts secured another set of Pac-12 Player of the Week honors, making it his second of the season and fourth in his career.
#32 Ziverts won three of four matches to lead the Wildcats in a 4-0 clean sweep against #26 UCLA on Friday, March 31 and a tight 4-3 win over #9 USC on Sunday, April 2. The Wildcat captain won both of his singles matches at the No. 2 spot in straight sets and dominated USC’s doubles tandem Bradley Frye and Peter Makk alongside Jay Friend at one doubles.
The Swede defeated UCLA’s Giacomo Revelli 6-2 in both sets and picked up a ranked win against USC’s #26 Peter Makk. Ziverts overpowered the Trojan in a set one tiebreaker then let up only one game in the second, winning 7-6(3), 6-1. Wildcat pair #73 Ziverts and Friend dispatched the Trojans’ Frye/Makk 6-2.
Ziverts is now 11-2 in dual singles and 8-5 in dual doubles heading into senior weekend. #12 Arizona, 17-4 overall, maintains a perfect 10-0 home record as they gear up to host #48 Oregon on Friday, April 7 at 3 p.m. and #51 Washington on Sunday, April 9 at 12 p.m. MT.
