DURHAM – Following a 2-0 weekend at No. 1 doubles, senior Garrett Johns and freshman Pedro Rodenas were tabbed ACC Doubles Team of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
The pair were ranked No. 71 in the country in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings.
Johns and Rodenas began the weekend with an impressive 7-6 (2) tiebreak win against Clemson’s Ryuhei Azuma and Spencer Whitaker to clinch the doubles point and help Duke secure a 7-0 victory.
The tandem then went on to secure the doubles points in the Blue Devils’ 6-1 win on Sunday against Georgia Tech. The duo were victorious in a 7-6 (5) tiebreak decision over No. 20 Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel on the top court for their first win over a nationally ranked opponent this season.
On the year, the pair hold an 11-2 dual doubles match ledger, including a 4-0 mark on court one. They are currently riding a seven-match winning streak and are undefeated in ACC play at 4-0.
Duke is back at home on Friday after six-straight road contests when it welcomes Wake Forest at 5 p.m. at Ambler Tennis Stadium, pending weather.
