Johns Honored with Sportsmanship Award at ITA National Fall Championships

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Senior Garrett Johns concluded his time at the 2022 ITA National Fall Championships, falling in the semifinals on Saturday, but didn’t go home empty handed.

The Atlanta, Ga., native was honored with the tournament’s Sportsmanship Award by a unanimous vote. Johns wrapped up his week, stringing together three-consecutive wins before dropping a three-setter to No. 4 Eliot Spizzirri of Texas.

Spizzirri claimed a 6-0 victory in the opening frame, but Johns battled back to register a 6-4 win in the second to force a third set. Unfortunately, Spizzirri responded with a 6-3 victory in the final frame to record the win and advance to Sunday’s final against No. 3 Nishesh Basavareddy of Stanford.
