Jaeda Daniel Named Top 30 Honoree for NCAA Woman of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS – Jaeda Daniel, who graduated from the NC State women’s tennis program in May of 2022, has been named a Top 30 honoree for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, as announced by the selection committee and the NCAA on Thursday.

The award, which was established in 1991, is given annually to a graduated female student-athlete who has distinguished herself throughout her collegiate career in the areas of academics, athletics, service and leadership. Selected from 577 school nominees and then 156 nominees from the conference level, the 30 honorees will be be narrowed down once more to nine finalists, three from each NCAA division. All 30 of the honorees will be celebrated at the NCAA Convention in January where this year’s winner will be named.

Daniel concluded her Wolfpack career as an NCAA champion as she won the 2022 doubles title alongside playing partner Nell Miller. It marked the first title in NC State women’s tennis history, and she finished the campaign with the Pack’s first-ever No. 1 final national ranking in doubles.

A native of Newton Square, Pa., Daniel was one of just five players in the nation to be named an All-American in singles and doubles in 2022, and she was also honored as a member of the First Team All-ACC. She was honored as the recipient of the H.C. Kennett Award, the highest athletic honor at NC State, and was also the national winner of the 2022 ITA Most Improved Senior award.

In addition to her leadership on the court for a Wolfpack team that reached back-to-back NCAA Championships quarterfinals in her final two seasons, Daniel played an active role in the NC State and Raleigh communities during her career. She served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for both NC State and the ACC, and she was also a member of the Pack United leadership board. Daniel also spent time volunteering with multiple local organizations including the Boy’s and Girl’s Club, Victory Junction Hospital and the Raleigh Salvation Army.

Daniel earned her master’s degree in textiles from NC State. In her three seasons with the Wolfpack, she was honored as an All-ACC Academic Team member twice and earned recognition as an ITA Scholar Athlete every year.
