CARY, N.C. – Duke women’s tennis senior Emma Jackson collected a pair of impressive wins on Friday in the main draw consolation bracket at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championship, which was being contested at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary.
Jackson, ranked No. 41 nationally from La Grange Park, Ill., opened the day with a 6-4, 2-3 (retired for injury) victory over ninth-ranked Nicole Khirin of Texas A&M. She then registered a 6-4, 7-5 win against 16th-ranked Julia Garcia Ruiz of Oklahoma to advance to the round of 16.
On Saturday, Jackson will face fourth-ranked Connie Ma of Stanford at 10 a.m.
In other action for the Blue Devils, 53rd-ranked Ellie Coleman dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to 18th-ranked Carolina Gomez Alonso of Arkansas. No. 38 Shavit Kimchi fell, 6-1, 1-0 (retired for injury) to 56th-ranked Alina Shcherbinina of Oklahoma. Virginia’s 91st-ranked Melodie Collard also defeated Duke’s 49th-ranked Katie Codd, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
