Jackets Cruise Past Boston College, 6-1 – Women's Tennis — Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis responded from dropping the doubles point by sweeping singles action on Friday afternoon to top Boston College, 6-1, at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The win pushed Tech to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

DOUBLES
Boston College took two doubles matches to gain the early match lead, 1-0. The Eagles and Yellow Jackets split the first two matches to finish, leaving the point to be decided on court one. Wrapping up first, BC grabbed a 6-2 decision on court three, but Kylie Bilchev and Alejandra Cruz quickly tied the doubles field, improving their record to 7-2 at the No. 2 position with a 6-3 victory. Bilchev and Cruz went up a break at 3-2 and never looked back, pushing control out for the 6-3 win.

On court one, Carol Lee and Kate Sharabura stood knotted at 4-all with Marice Aguiar and Laura Lopez. After erasing an early 0-2 deficit, the Jackets won three-straight games to take a 3-2 lead, but the Eagles answered winning the next two games for a 4-3 advantage. Tech moved back on serve at 4-4, but Boston College clinched the doubles point winning the next two games for a 6-4 win.

SINGLES
Georgia Tech responded taking all six first sets in singles action to gain momentum, needing four singles victories to clinch the overall match. The Yellow Jackets dropped only two sets en route to sweeping singles action. Sharabura put the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard, cruising to a dominating win on court six over Stephanie Sanchez. Sharabura collected the first set, 6-2, and jumped out with a 4-1 lead in the second. Sanchez held off one match point, but couldn’t hang on as Sharabura took the second set, 6-2, to even the match at 1-all.

Rosie Garcia Gross gave Tech its first and final lead of the match, winning on court five against Natalie Eordekian. Tied at 3-all in the first set, Garcia Gross pocketed the first set, 6-4, and led early in the second set, 3-1. The Jacket sealed the win, 6-3.

Bilchev cushioned Tech’s lead to 3-1 with a hard-fought win on court two against Lopez. After dominating the first set, 6-1, Bilchev led 5-3 in the second, but Lopez staged a late rally, crawling back to 5-5. But Bilchev snapped the rally, claiming the next two games for a 7-5 second set and win.

Cruz clinched the match from court four, taking down Agar in straight-sets, 7-5, 6-2. The Jacket claimed the first set, 7-5, after the opponents stood tied at 4-apiece. Cruz dominated the second set, racing out with a 5-0…
