TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 28-ranked Illinois women’s tennis (9-4) is set to visit No. 60 Arizona (11-6) and play New Mexico State (6-5). The matches will take place on Tuesday, March 14, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. CT, respectively, from the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center in Tucson, Arizona.
New ITA team rankings are scheduled to come out on Tuesday as well.
Arizona marks the fifth match against a ranked team this season with the Illini sitting at 2-2 in those outings.
The Illini already have five individuals with double-digit wins in singles play this season, including Kida Ferrari (11-6), Ashley Yeah (11-7), Kasia Treiber (11-9), Josie Frazier (10-7) and Megan Heuser (10-8).
On the doubles courts, Megan Heuser and Kate Duong have won seven-consecutive matches. The duo is up to a 16-3 overall record on the season, which includes a 8-1 mark in dual play.
Last Time Out
The Orange and Blue opened their four-match road stretch on Friday at No. 72 Northwestern with a 4-3 victory. Illinois won the doubles point while Heuser, Frazier and Treiber each picked up a singles victory to secure a 2-0 start to Big Ten play for the Illini.
Illini vs. The Field
Illinois holds a 1-5 record all-time against Arizona but have been victorious over the Wildcats already this season. The most recent meeting came on Feb. 25 in the Blue Gray Tennis Classic, where the Illini took down the Wildcats, 4-3.
Illinois and New Mexico State will meet for the first time in program history on Tuesday.
Illini Notes
Head coach Evan Clark is in his eighth year as the head coach of Illinois women’s tennis and holds an overall dual record of 106-71 (.599) and is 52-25 (.675) in Big Ten play during his time as an Illini.
The Illini are coming off a 16-9 season with an 8-3 Big Ten record in 2021-22.
Illinois returns seven of its eight players from last season, including seniors Emily Casati, Josie Frazier, and Ashley Yeah; junior Kate Duong; and sophomores Kida Ferrari, Megan Heuser, and Kasia Treiber. The Illini also welcomed new freshman Violeta Martinez to the squad.
