Huskies Set To Start Fall Season At All-Americans

SEATTLE – Fall tournament play is at hand for the Husky women’s tennis team, as it will send four women to the ITA All-American Championships, the first major singles and doubles tournament of the 2024-25 calendar. Erika Matsuda, McKenna Koenig, Reece Carter, and Alexia Jacobs are all on their way to the tournament in Cary, North Carolina.

The tournament also serves as the first qualifier for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, which have broken from tradition and moved to November rather than taking place following the NCAA Team Championship in the spring. Ten singles players and four doubles teams will qualify for NCAAs from the All-Americans.

The ITA All-American Championships follows its traditional three-tier set-up, with pre-qualifying rounds, followed by qualifying rounds, and then the main draw.

Matsuda and Koenig will open up in pre-qualifying singles and together as a doubles team on Saturday, Sept. 21. Players in pre-qualifying will need three wins to move into the qualifying singles draw, and two wins to advance in doubles.

Matsuda faces Eva Elbaz of Princeton in the first round scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Pacific time on Saturday, and Koenig takes on Danielle Hack of Maryland at the same time. The two are scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. PT in doubles against Mulville/Van Vuuren of Kansas.

Carter and Jacobs will be starting off in the qualifying draw, which begins on Monday, Sept. 23. Match-ups and start times for that draw will be determined as this weekend wraps up.
