SEATTLE – Washington Men’s Tennis begins its 2024 journey this Sunday, in the friendly confines of the Nordstrom Tennis Center. A veteran Husky squad will host Idaho at 11 a.m. in the first dual of the new year.
The Huskies are in the second season under Head Coach Rahim Esmail, coming off a 12-11 campaign where the Dawgs finished the year ranked No. 45. Washington returns 63 of the 64 individual dual singles wins from last year’s squad.
Back for another run are junior Cesar Bouchelaghem (19 dual wins last season), senior Jim Hendrikx (9 dual wins), senior Han-Chih Lin (7 dual wins), sophomore Brett Pearson (9 dual wins), junior Nedim Suko (8 dual wins), and junior Dzianis Zharyn (11 dual wins). Joining the six returners are senior transfer Heman Nama and freshman Ivan Sodan, who just joined the team at the start of the new year and new quarter.
Bouchelaghem and Zharyn made their mark on the fall season, as they became the first Husky duo to make the semifinals of the ITA National Fall Championships. They start the dual season ranked No. 12 nationally as a pair.
Idaho is coming off a great 2023 season which saw it make a run through the Big Sky Conference tournament, upsetting the top-two seeded teams to win the tourney and qualify for the NCAA Championships, where the Vandals lost to USC in the first round. Idaho finished 15-9 last year.
